comes to any Indian wedding, it is a like a lavish and extravaganza
affair. Talking about Kayastha matrimony specifically in here, it
simply ceases to leave its on-lookers in awe and admiration.
Kayastha
community is the community that is situated in the states of U.P,
Madhya Pradesh and Delhi. The marriage rituals of this community are
a little bit different from other communities. But one thing is for
sure and that is the fun and excitement that is involved in this
wedding. The family of the Kayastha bride & groom fix the
marriage and after the finalizing of the bride/groom, the family
members fix the most auspicious marriage date as per their respective
birth charts.
#1.
Lagan Ceremony
Kayastha the wedding ceremony starts with the lagan ritual in which the family of
both the bride and the groom sends a formal invitation in the form of
a lagan Patrika. The lagan Patrika is sent along with a
silver-covered coconut, betel nuts, and gold-covered barley. Apart
from this, the bride’s family offers clothes for the groom and his
family along with sweets, dry fruits, and fresh fruits.

Bariksha
Bariksha
is a wedding ceremony is Kayastha matrimony that marks the acceptance
of the groom and the bride who will become each other’s life
partners. Moreover, in this particular ritual, the Kayastha girl’s the family sends a silver bowl full of rice, supari and turmeric powder
as well as an envelope that contains cash, representing the
confirmation of the relation between the two families.

The Farisht
The
Farisht is a super interesting ritual in a Kayastha Matrimony. The
Farisht ritual calls for the Groom to take a major part. In this, he
is supposed to send a list of all the relatives/guests that they will
be inviting to the wedding along with the Gods and Goddesses they
worship. And the list has to be POETIC and not an old style.

Just
like any other Indian wedding, Sagai a formal engagement ceremony in
which the bride and the groom exchange rings and formalize their
relationship in front of the world. The groom’s family visits the
house of the bride with gifts, jewelry, and dresses for the bride.
Also, the mother of the groom applies red teeka on her forehead and
places all the gift items on her lap.

Bhat Nyota
The appearance of Bhat Nyota is seen in a number of Indian marriages and
a Kayastha wedding is no exception! Bhat Nyota ritual is performed in
the Groom’s and the Bride’s families a few days before the actual
wedding day. Mothers from both parties visit their respective
parents’ house. This is to invite them to their maternal
grandchild’s wedding and comprises a lot of warm as well as fun
wedding memories.

Haldi Kutaai
Haldi
Kutaai is just like the Haldi ceremony that takes place in most of the Indian weddings. In a Kayastha wedding, it is called the Haldi Kutaai
ceremony. There is only a slight difference in Kayastha's wedding, as it
is carried out at the Kayastha groom’s place. Each and every lady
in the groom’s family dress up with their Nath, teekas and chunri
in order to prepare the Haldi (turmeric) powder for the bride. And
once it is prepared, the Haldi paste is sent to the bride’s house
through her brother.

Mandapchadan
Mandapchadan
is about the involvement of the male members of the groom’s side.
In this, five elder married male members use four bamboo posts,
banana stumps, and mango leaves to make the pillars of the mandap. On
the other hand, the roof of the mandap is made up of hay. This is
where the wedding ceremonies take place on the d-day!

Tilak
Tilak the ceremony of the Kayastha matrimonial takes place at the residence of
the groom in the presence of all the friends and the family members.
Gifts are given to the groom, which are placed on his lap during the
ritual along with the application of the tilak.

Imli Ghutna
Imli
Ghutna is a ritual wherein the positivity and prosperity are brought
and converged to the groom through the blessings. The ceremony is
performed by the groom’s maternal uncle and aunt. This is done so that
the marriage turns out to be a successful one without any obstacles
or negativity. The maternal uncle and aunt of the Groom come together
and bless the groom for a happy married life.

Mehendi ceremony
Just
like any other Indian wedding, a Mehendi ceremony takes place a day
before the wedding day. It is basically an evening full of fun, dance
and feast where the groom and the bride adorn their hands with henna.
Even the female friends and family members apply Mehendi on their
hands. Unlike many other Hindu weddings, in Kayastha matrimony, even
the Kayastha groom applies the beautiful design of the Mehendi.

Parichhavan
Parichhavan
is performed right before the groom sets out with his baraat to bring
his bride at his home. Before stepping out of the house, the mother of
the groom performs aarti for the baraat and also blesses her son
with god wishes so that they reach the Kayastha bride’s house or
the wedding venue safe and sound. The mother of the groom basically
wards off all bad omens and put tilak on his forehead with her
blessing for the new auspicious beginning.

Bhaat Ceremony
Bhaat
is a lunch ceremony that is organized and executed with full warmth
by the maternal uncle of the bride for the groom and his family
members. In this ritual, lovely gifts and money are also given by the
bride’s uncle to the Kayastha groom as well as the close members of
his family.
#13.
Baraat procession
Now,
the procession of the baraat takes place with all the dhoom-dhaam and
shor-sharaba. First of all, the baraat proceeds towards the nearby
temple to take the blessings of their God. All the male members of
the family and a few females of the family participate in this
procession.
#14.
Tani Khulai
Once
the wedding rituals are completed and after the bride and the groom
are now pronounced as husband and wife, the groom opens a sacred
cloth. The cloth consists of a knot which he is supposed has to
untie. And when this ritual is done, it is when the parents of the
bride shower him with some gifts and cash for their prosperity as
husband and wife.
Just
like any other wedding, Kayastha matrimony is also filled with lots
of colors, rites, and rituals. After the marriage, the newlyweded
couple is welcomed by the groom’s family in his house, followed by
a muh-dikhai ceremony where the newbie bride is welcomed by gifts and
