The simplicity and frankness of the wedding traditions of India are shown in the Oriya Matrimony. Orissa is positioned on the eastern coast of India adjacent to the Bay of Bengal and has several, beautiful beaches that are very appealing. The residents of Orissa are considerably introverted and follow a smooth lifestyle. Oriya weddings are modest affairs. Still, the wedding ceremonies follow the rich culture of the state, with traditional clothes, food, and rituals.

The state Orissa is named for its unique rituals and customs as far as the marriage is concerned.

If you want to know about Oriya Marriage, you can refer to the Oriya Matrimony websites.

Oriya matrimonial rituals
This Hindu wedding involves a series of rituals, which include many customs including pre-wedding, wedding and post-wedding rituals.

Special Trend
There is a trend in eastern India that the groom's mother does not take part in the wedding, and they stay back at home, singing wedding songs with other older female members of the family.

The time of wedding celebrations varies as per the Hindu caste of the bride and groom. The Brahmin families in Orissa organize the marriage function or ceremonies in daylight, while the non-Brahmins do the Shaadi during evenings or nights.

Pre Wedding Ceremonies –

The pre-wedding ceremonies include
• Jayee Anukolo,
• Mangan,
• Diya Mangula Pooja,
• Barajatri and
• Baadua Pani Gadhua.

In the first ritual called, Jayee Anukolo, the marriage invitation cards are given to their relatives and friends. In Mangan tradition, both the bride and groom will be advised to apply turmeric paste (Haldi) on their body and encouraged to take a holy bath. Next ritual would be the Diya Mangula Pooja, in which, the bride will devote the Devi Matha in Devi temple, in the temple, and she will be given toe rings, bangles, saree and sindoor (Kumkum). The bride will be asked to take a ceremonial bath called Baadua Pani Gadhua. The groom will be welcomed to the wedding venue by the ritual called Barajatri. With this, the pre-wedding ceremony will be ended up.

Wedding Customs - The wedding rituals include Kanyadan and Hatha Ghanti. Once after the groom came to the wedding Mandapa, the bride is welcomed to the wedding Mandapa. Then the important ritual kanyadan is performed. This ritual includes the father of the bride to be placing her right hand in the groom\'s right hand. This ritual confirms that the groom will take care of the bride in the coming days. Then will begin the Hatha Ghanti ritual, in which the bride and groom will receive 7 rounds of the holy fire just to let down the scare and evil things of a wedding. Then, the groom will put sindoor on the bride\'s forehead and Mangalsutra on the bride\'s neck.

Post Wedding Rituals –
This includes the Grihapravesh and Astha Mangala ritual.

Grihapravesh is the ritual of welcoming the bride to her new marital home. Then, the bride and groom both will get the blessings of the elders. Then, on the 8th day after the wedding, the married couple will visit the bride\'s house, and this ritual is called Astha Mangala.

There, they will be given a warm and hearty welcome and will be served by auspicious and traditional food items. The food items include ten diverse varieties right from ghee to regular Oriya rice.
